At Balanceology, we understand that self-care isn’t always a straightforward journey. For those of us who excel at caring for others, prioritizing our own well-being can often feel like an unattainable goal. However, through our own experiences—laden with life lessons and even mistakes—we’ve come to recognize that true flourishing arises not from grand gestures, but from the small, deliberate choices we make every single day.
Creating Lifelong Change
“Take care of yourself.” These were the words my Dad always had for me when we parted ways. I spent more than a decade of my adult life learning to do just that. While the program I’ve designed is rooted in research and meant to be practiced over two years, the results will last a lifetime. I won’t give clients a cookie-cutter plan because everyone is distinct. My job is to provide a space that helps individuals find the answers they need to create a life that balances the mind, body, and spirit – for real!
Our work begins with the process of rediscovering or redefining your spiritual or religious beliefs. Many of us had negative experiences with religious organizations that we lost our own connection to something greater than ourselves. Rediscovering that in a safe space can be healing and transformative. We create rituals and have conversations that facilitate this discovery.
Living a Life of Meaning and Purpose
Living a life of meaning and purpose starts with knowing what we each value most. Together, clients and I determine their value system. We use it as a guiding light to prioritize goals and plans.
Part of that plan will include making time for spiritual discovery and basic self-care including (but not limited to) eating right, moving the body every day, getting enough rest, nutrition, gut health, and hydration. Without satisfying these very basic needs, no one can truly step into the life they are meant to have. My clients and I work together to prioritize these practices every day and create routines that become lasting habits.
Mindfulness is another key component of my program. I guide clients through the process of scaffolding healthy practices into their lives. This might start with something as simple as taking one minute each day to be mindful, perhaps during a morning cup of coffee. The goal will be to practice daily mindfulness through spiritual practices that connect you with something greater than yourself. Whatever an individual’s spiritual beliefs, we will work within those parameters.
We also look at the power of people and social interactions. Other people impact our well-being by influencing our habits, behaviors, and health. Building a supportive network is paramount to thriving, so we find key players in life that will lift you up and support your long-term goals.
Mindset is key for building psychological flexibility so we can step into new habits, routines, and rituals that lead to thriving. Be ready to take a look at thoughts, emotions, stories, and sensations that hold you back!
